EC781 Billet Aluminum Oil Filter Cap Ford 6.0L 6.4L Black

Filter AccessoriesCE / ISO 9001

Billet aluminium replacement for the EC781 oil filter cap on the Ford 6.0L and 6.4L Powerstroke. Machined from 6061-T6 and anodised black, it replaces the plastic cap that cracks at the hex. The B100 x P3 thread also fits the lifter pump filter housing, which takes the same cap.

❓ FAQ

Both. The oil filter housing and the lifter pump filter housing on the 6.0L and 6.4L share the same B100 x P3 thread and the same 98.6 mm seat, so one cap serves either position. If you want to be certain, check the number moulded on the cap you are replacing.

The factory cap is moulded plastic that sits in hot oil for years. It cracks at the hex or along a thread flank, and the hex rounds off after a few filter changes. A 6061-T6 billet body does not take a permanent set and keeps its corners, so it still comes off with the same socket years later.

2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke F-250 to F-550, 2008-2010 6.4L F-250 to F-550, F-650 and F-750 6.0L 2005-2008, Excursion 6.0L 2003-2005, E-350 and E-450 6.0L 2005-2010, LCF 4.5L V6 2006-2009, and International 1652SC, 3300 and 4000 Series 6.0L 2005-2007.

A 1-3/8 in (35 mm) socket on the hex, torqued to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Some workshop guides quote 36 mm for the same cap; try the 1-3/8 first and only go up a size if it will not seat.

The box contains the aluminium cap only, with no O-ring. Reuse the ring from the cap you are removing if it is still soft and round, or fit a new one; a ring that has hardened and taken a set is the usual cause of a weep after a filter change.

Description

Product Overview

The EC781 is the cap that closes the oil filter housing on the Ford 6.0L and 6.4L Powerstroke V8. Both engines run a cartridge element rather than a spin-on can, so the cap is not a lid on a throwaway part: it is the pressure boundary that holds the element against its seat and keeps oil inside the housing while the engine runs. This one is machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminium and anodised black, which removes the failure the plastic original is known for.

The same B100 x P3 thread and the same 98.6 mm body are used on the lifter pump filter housing as well, so one cap serves both positions. The plastic original survives a handful of filter changes before the hex rounds off or a crack opens along a thread flank; a machined aluminium body does not take a set and does not embrittle with heat.

Fitment follows the housing, not the badge: the F-250 to F-550 Super Duty from 2003 to 2007 with the 6.0L, the same trucks from 2008 to 2010 with the 6.4L, the F-650 and F-750 6.0L from 2005 to 2008, the Excursion 6.0L from 2003 to 2005, the E-350 and E-450 6.0L vans from 2005 to 2010, the LCF 4.5L V6 from 2006 to 2009, and the International 1652SC, 3300 and 4000 Series 6.0L from 2005 to 2007.

Key Features

6061-T6 billet, black anodised — Machined from solid stock rather than cast, so there is no porosity to weep through and no moulded seam to split. The anodised layer is a hard oxide that resists the diesel and oil vapour the cap lives in.
B100 x P3 thread cut to the factory form — The thread is single-pointed to the same pitch and flank angle as the housing, so the cap starts by hand and runs down without cross-threading. Cross-threading is what strips the aluminium housing, and the housing is the expensive half.
1-3/8 in (35 mm) hex — The hex is part of the machined body, not a pressed insert, so a standard socket bites on full flats. Nothing has to be unbolted to reach the element, and a strap wrench is not needed on a body that has already cracked.
One cap, two housing positions — The oil filter housing and the lifter pump filter housing share the same thread and the same seat diameter. A single spare covers either location, which matters on a 6.0L where both caps are the same age and fail the same way.
Thicker wall than the moulded original — The wall section carries the torque instead of deflecting under it. That is what stops the hex from going soft after the third or fourth filter change on a plastic cap.
A plastic cap cracked at the hex — The original cap is moulded plastic that sits in hot oil for a decade. It cracks at the hex or along a thread flank, and oil then weeps onto the housing and down the bellhousing. A machined body closes that failure path at the source.
A metal pump housing under a thin plastic lid — On the lifter pump side the housing is metal and the cover is a thin plastic disc. Fuel, heat and the load from the pump pulse work on it until it deforms. The aluminium cap puts a body of matching strength on a housing that was always metal.
Rounded hex after repeated services — A plastic hex deforms a little on every removal, so the socket gets looser each time until it spins. The machined hex keeps its corners, which is the difference between a two-minute filter change and an afternoon with a chisel.
Over-torquing to stop a seep — Tightening past spec to chase a leak cracks the plastic and distorts the housing lip, and then no cap seals. The correct figure is 25 Nm (18 lb-ft); reach it by hand first, then with a torque wrench on the 35 mm hex.
