R61709 Fuel Filter Water Separator for Detroit DD13 DD15 DD16
R61709 is a fuel filter water separator element 106 mm outer diameter and 183 mm high, with a 25 mm end bore, rated at 5 to 10 micron, replacing FS20176, DDER61709, PF46235, RAIR61709 and P552709. It fits Detroit Diesel DD13, DD15 and DD16 engines on EPA 2010 and later on-highway trucks. The element strips free water before it reaches the high-pressure common rail, where water pits injectors and the repair is an engine-out job on some chassis. Fit it with the supplied O-rings and prime the housing before cranking.

❓ FAQ
Detroit Diesel DD13 12.8L, DD15 14.8L and DD16 15.6L on EPA 2010 and later on-highway trucks, in the 03-40538-009 filter housing.
They are interchangeable in the same housing. FS20176 is the Fleetguard number, DDER61709 the Detroit number and PF46235 the Baldwin number for this element.
106 mm outer diameter, 183 mm overall height and a 25 mm end bore. The bore locates the element on the housing standpipe; an element with the wrong bore will not seat on the end seal and fuel bypasses the media.
Both. The element separates free water at 5 to 10 micron rating and strips particulate. Emulsified water that has already mixed with the fuel is not fully removed by a separator element, which is why the housing drain has to be opened at every service.
At the interval in the engine service schedule, and immediately after any tank fill that picks up water. Watch the drain jar: if water appears within a few hundred miles of a fresh element, the problem is in the tank or the fuel supply, not the filter.
