❓ FAQ

Yes. The kit ships with one FD-4596 element, one 6061-T6 billet aluminum cap and two fuel-resistant O-rings, so the element seal and the cap seal are both replaced in one job.

The cap fits the factory fuel bowl on 1999 to 2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke V8 engines, including the 2001 F-250 and F-350. It turns on with a 1 inch hex and is sealed by the O-ring supplied with the element.

The factory cap is molded plastic that goes brittle after years of heat cycles and vibration, and it splits when a socket is cocked on the ribs. A 6061-T6 billet aluminum cap is cut from solid bar and does not age the same way.

FD-4596 crosses to Motorcraft FD4596, Ford F81Z9N184AA, Baldwin PF7698, WIX 33818 and Fleetguard FF5418. The element is rated 10 micron at 98% efficiency and drops into the factory bowl.

The cap can be reused only if it is not cracked or warped, but the cap seal is the O-ring that arrives with the element, so the old ring must be discarded. A cracked or warped cap lets air into the fuel and causes hard starting.

Description

Product Overview

4596-CAP05 is a two-piece fuel filter service kit for the Ford 7.3L Powerstroke V8: one FD-4596 drop-in element rated 10 micron at 98% efficiency, plus a gold 6061-T6 billet aluminium cap that replaces the factory plastic lid. The kit fits 1999 to 2003 F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks, 1999 to 2003 E-350 through E-550 vans and the 2000 to 2003 Excursion, and two fuel-resistant O-rings come in the box so the element seal and the cap seal are renewed in the same job.

Key Features

Aluminium cap instead of plastic — 6061-T6 billet does not go brittle with heat cycles, which is the failure that splits the factory lid and lets air into the fuel.
10 micron at 98% efficiency — the rating Ford publishes for the 7.3L element, so the pleats match what the HEUI injectors were built around.
96% or better water removal — water is held in the bowl and drained at the valve instead of being carried through to the injectors.
Two O-rings in the box — element seal and cap seal are both new, so the bowl is never closed on hardened rubber.
Gold anodised finish — the cap is finished in gold, so the bowl lid reads as a deliberate upgrade and is easy to spot in the engine bay.
