496-5 Fuel Tank Filter Element 30 Micron Water Block Diesel
496-5 is the replacement water-block element for Goldenrod 496 and 496-3/4 fuel tank filters. The element is rated 30 micron, measures 76 mm (3 in) across and 124 mm (4-7/8 in) tall, and carries a reinforced support sheet that holds up to 150 PSI so the media does not collapse. It absorbs about half a cup (120 ml) of water before flow slows, which is the signal to replace it, and works with petrol, diesel, fuel oil and biodiesel to B20.

❓ FAQ
496-5 fits Goldenrod 496 and 496-3/4 fuel tank filters. It does not fit the 495 general purpose body, which uses a plain particulate element, or the 497 biodiesel body.
Replace it when fuel flow slows noticeably. The water-absorbing media holds roughly half a cup, about 120 ml, and once that capacity is used the flow restriction rises — that is the designed signal, not a fault.
The element rating is 30 micron, and the protective sheet lets it hold that rating at 150 PSI. Some catalogues quote 17 micron for the same body, which refers to the finest particle the media will capture rather than the rated filtration point printed on the element.
The element is rated for petrol, diesel, fuel oil and biodiesel blends to B20. Note that a water-block element will not absorb water out of fuel that contains alcohol, so with E10 petrol the water simply passes through instead of being trapped.
The plate behind the media stops the element from collapsing inward at high pressure. Without it, a loaded water-block element buckles at around 150 PSI and the fuel flow is cut off entirely instead of just slowing.

Description
Product Overview
496-5 is the replacement water-block element for Goldenrod 496 and 496-3/4 fuel tank filters. The element filters at 30 micron, measures 76 mm (3 in) across and 124 mm (4-7/8 in) tall, and is built with a reinforced support sheet that resists 150 PSI working pressure so the media cannot collapse into the outlet. Its water-absorbing media takes up roughly half a cup (120 ml) of water before flow slows, which is the point to change it; petrol, diesel, fuel oil and biodiesel blends to B20 are all covered.
